How to Submit to Metropolitan Diary

Metropolitan Diary is where New Yorkers of all ages and eras, regardless of where they live now — as well as visitors to the city — share anecdotes, memories, quirky encounters and overheard snippets that reveal the city’s spirit and heart.

Your Entry

Submissions should be connected to New York City and no longer than 300 words (we prefer them shorter where possible).

We occasionally publish poems, will consider mini-plays and especially like items that make us laugh or crack a smile.

The rules

You must be able to verify that you are the actual author, that the item is true (that is, that you were there when it happened) and that it has not appeared anywhere else, including social media.

Please include your name and telephone number for verification. Your phone number will not be printed.

Submissions become the property of The Times and cannot be returned, so, please, don’t send valuables or perishables.

By transmitting your submission, you grant The New York Times Company a perpetual, royalty-free license to use the submission in any medium. They may be edited, and may be republished and adapted in all media. You may reprint your story elsewhere after it appears in The Times.
